THE UNDERWATER GUN RUN in aid of Help for Heroes.
On the weekend of 24th/25th September, The Underwater Studio and Phoenix Divers Ltd organised a unique event in aid of Help for Heroes. Teams of divers from up and down the country were invited to The Underwater Studio to compete in the Gun Run competition. Each team of four divers had to lift, push and float a 62kg gun around an obstacle course to win the 2011 Underwater Field Gun Trophy and title. BHR1287 's Steven King, engineer and Sam Brown, presenter were involved being members of The Phoenix Divers team. When I arrived at The Underwater Studio, Phoenix divers had already taken part and were winning until the Royal Navy Team of divers turned up, then they dropped to second place. But well done to Basildon Hospital Radio members for taking part in this event. Also in the grounds of The Underwater Studio were "The Railroad Police" a team of men who take part in authentic re-enactments of American West history. They had an impressive array of old rifles and guns, I was encouraged to wear the confederates hat, and to handle the gun (which was surprisingly heavy) for which I was arrested by the railroad policeman. Also our presenter Sam Brown had assembled his group called La'fuskers" for a sing song on stage. All in all a delightful weekend. |
